Etchasketch Trees (Yppah Cover) After two releases in their successful Friends of Friends series, FoF is gearing up for their first ever full-length release. Out in Februrary ’10 , the ‘Been Meaning to Tell You’ LP by Ernest Gonzales, owner of San Antonio’s Exponential Records. In anticipation of this exciting and intricate release, Friends of Friends and EG are releasing the Self-Awakening EP featuring two original tracks, and remixes/covers by friends Faunts, Take, CYNE, Mexicans with Guns and Yppah! “The title Self Awakening refers to the final scene of the film [Vanilla Sky] when the main character, David, needs to make a choice to continue living in a lucid dream or overcome a giant fear to live in the real world. ‘The sweet is never as sweet without the sour’ -these words are some of the last bits of advice given to David…a very resonating message in my mind. Having been asked to invite friends for a “covers album”, EG began asking homies to get involved in the project;www.fofmusic.net sweet and the sour mixing organic and artificial sounds to create an elaborate experience of guitar meeting textured and careful electronics.
the EP is rounded out by a number of those covers and remixes turned in from friends. Canadian post-rock band Faunts (Friendly Fire Recordings) and LA beatsmith Take (aka Sweatson Klank, known for his remix work with Flying Lotus) both bring their perspective to “Self Awakening” whilr EP also features an invigorating version of “I’m Here You’re There” by Mexicans With Guns, dubstep remixer of the Faunts, Bassnectar, among others and a remix of Gonzales’ “Etchasketch Trees” by Yppah (Joe Corrales Jr.), best known for his work on UK label Ninja Tune.
